Everyone went berserk when a picture of the 390 Adventure went online couple of days ago. Within a few days, KTM acted upon this picture saying that the 390 Adventure won’t be built on the 390 Duke’s platform.
During a recent conversation with Overdrive, KTM officials did confirm about a new adventure motorcycle being developed but not on the lines of the Duke 390. During this conversation, the Austrian manufacturer revealed that the naked and the supersport motorcycles were the top priority and the adventure motorcycle project was on the back seat. The engineers found that the Duke 390 platform would not do justice to the adventure version and hence, they decided to work on it differently. It was also not commercially feasible to tweak the current 390 platform as the cost would increase tremendously, making it impractical to price it as it was supposed to.
There are lot of touring enthusiasts in the country who have been waiting to get their hands on this bike as early as possible. Looks like the 2015 launch, which we thought would be, won’t happen. This makes 2016 our lucky year to get our hands on this adventure motorcycle.
