A couple of months ago, we had told you that KTM has confirmed that the Husqvarna Vitpilen motorcycles based on the 390 and 690 platforms will soon go into production. Soon after, the one based on the 690 platform has been spotted testing in Europe. However, now we have a picture of the 390 Duke-based Husqvarna Vitpilen 401 on test.
Husqvarna’s forthcoming 390-based Vitpilen 401 and Svartpilen are likely to be made in India, at the Bajaj-KTM plant in Chakan, Pune. Husqvarna has already confirmed its return with the 373cc 401 Vitpilen (based on the KTM Duke 390 and RC 390) and its scrambler Svarpilen stablemate, along with a 125cc variant (based on the KTM Duke 125 and RC 125).
The 390-based models will use the same frame and engine as the Duke and will likely feature all the new updates the latter is getting as well. Some of which include, host of engine updates to meet new Euro-4 regulations. The single-cylinder engine has been reworked to give a more stable combustion and more efficient fuel delivery with the latest engine management systems not only giving more power but also increased fuel economy.
As we see in the picture, the styling is well hidden, the cladding and lack of visible bodywork leaves most to imagination. However, we can tell it will look very much like the bikes showcased as concepts in 2014. Both motorcycles based on the 390 are expected to make their way to the roads by 2017 and will be sold in India through the KTM dealerships.
