- 490 Adventure under development
- Will be positioned between 390 Adventure and 790 Adventure
- Will be powered by a 500cc parallel-twin engine
It’s been just a few days since we saw the KTM390 Adventure in person. And now, there are news about a bigger adventure bike and it is called the 490 Adventure.
According to a leaked presentation slide, KTM is working on a 490 Adventure motorcycle that is likely to make its debut in 2020-2021, at least in concept form. This upcoming adventure motorcycle is being built around KTM’s new 500cc parallel-twin motor – a platform that is being specifically being designed and developed for developing markets like India.
It’s been almost a year since the top honcho of KTM revealed their 500cc platform details. This new platform is being developed by KTM and will be manufactured by Bajaj at their Chakan plant in Pune. As seen in this leaked presentation, there will be a total of five new motorcycles that will come out of this platform – 490 Adventure, a supermoto and a dual purpose along with the streetfighter and supersport under Duke and RC brands respectively.
The upcoming 490 Adventure is likely to get similar design lines as the 390 Adventure but the overall body proportions will be marginally bigger. The major differentiation will be seen on the engine. This motor is expected to churn out power anywhere between 60bhp and 70bhp. The 490 Adventure is likely to get better equipped like traction control system and ABS with multiple modes.
The 490 Adventure is expected to make its debut in the next few years. We believe KTM will first launch the Duke and RC versions, followed by the ADV.
