- Retuned engine with a wider torque band
- 400km tank range
- Fully adjustable suspension
- Full electronics suite will be standard
The KTM 790 Adventure R is on its way to production soon, just like the 390 Adventure, and it promises to be just as fun as the 790 Duke, but off-road. A few more details have emerged regarding the upcoming middleweight adventure-touring motorcycle.
The engine will be based on the same 799cc parallel-twin motor that powers the 790 Duke, but will be retuned for a wider torque spread. This should help the touring/off-road riding capability of the bike. Another target that the 790 Adventure R has is a tank range of 400km, twice that of the street model. That means a massive fuel tank that will hold around 20 litres of fuel, much like the BMW R1200 GS Adventure. Interestingly, the fuel tank houses fuel in vertical holders at the sides of the engine as well so that the extra weight from a full tank doesn’t upset the bike’s balance. This is a design element taken from Dakar machinery. The suspension is a fully adjustable setup from WP, with the rear shock on a progressive damping system rather than a linkage. The wheels are standard sizes for an adv machine: 21” front, 18”. As far as electronics go, it will have cornering ABS, traction control and ride modes as standard features, but with off-road focused tuning and options as well.
The KTM 790 Adventure R has as very slim chance of making it to the Indian market, unfortunately.
