KTM has finally launched the 790 Duke in India with a price tag of Rs 8.63 lakhs (ex-showroom, India). Dealerships across the country have already started accepting bookings for the motorcycle and deliveries are expected to commence in the next couple of weeks.
Dubbed as ‘The Scalpel’, the 790 Duke’s sharp styling is inspired by its bigger sibling, the 1290 Super Duke. The muscular fuel-tank, minimalistic and edgy bodywork along with a high-set exhaust canister give the bike a distinctive look. It also sports a split-headlamp setup and a full-colour TFT display similar to the 390 Duke.
The 790 Duke is built around a steel trellis frame and aluminum sub-frame with the new 799cc, parallel-twin engine as a stressed member. The liquid-cooled engine churns out 105bhp and 86Nm of torque and comes mated to a six-speed transmission with a slipper clutch and bi-directional quick-shifter. And with a dry weight of 169kg, the KTM 790 Duke boasts of a colossal power to weight ratio.
Moreover, KTM is offering the 790 Duke with electronic rider aids like lean-sensitive traction control, cornering ABS, launch and wheelie control along with riding modes that include a ‘Supermoto mode’ that turns off ABS at the rear wheel. The bike uses 43mm inverted forks by WP and a pre-load adjustable, gas-assisted monoshock for suspension. Meanwhile, braking is taken care of by twin 300mm discs in the front while the rear gets a 240mm single disc.
The KTM 790 Duke is available in two colour schemes of orange and black and arrives in the country via the CKD (Completely Knocked Down) route. In terms of competition, it will go against the likes of the Triumph Street Triple S and Street Triple RS along with the Yamaha MT-09, Suzuki GSX-S750 and the Ducati Monster 821.
