KTM has announced the price of the upcoming 790 Duke in the UK market. It retails at GBP 8500, which is around ₹ 7.3 lakhs. This is excellent pricing for what promises to be the disruptor in its segment, what with its extremely long list of standard equipment.
Usually manufacturers announce a price and later add that it is a base price, and to add features will cost the customer more. This is something we're used to from four-wheeler manufacturers in the Indian market as well. However, KTM has on the 'standard' list a colour TFT instrument display with Bluetooth, switchable ABS including 'Enduro' mode, switchable traction control, a two-way quickshifter, anti-wheelie and remember, all of this is linked to a six-axis IMU, which means that the traction control and ABS are lean-angle sensitive.
The 2018 Ducati Monster 821 will retail at GBP 10,100, which is roughly Rs 8.7 lakhs. It has an almost comparable number of electronics and features, although it is shorter than the KTM's list. Considering that the Monster 821 retails at roughly Rs 10.36 lakhs in the Indian market (because of taxes and duties) it isn't inconcievable that the 790 Duke will undercut it significantly here as well. In fact, there are rumours that this model will go into production at Bajaj's Chakan facility alongside its smaller displacement bretheren. If that happens, the 790 Duke will manage to be a disruption in the Indian marketplace as well, and do to the middleweight category what the 390 Duke has done to its segment - offer unbeatable value for money.
