- Spotted testing in Austria.
- Likely to get technical updates.
- Expected to be unveiled at 2018 EICMA.
The KTM 790 Duke R has been spotted testing in Austria. The bike was sporting the trademark white and orange paint scheme.
Like other KTM ‘R’ models, the 790 Duke R is expected to get a few technical upgrades. Braking duties will be carried out by Brembo calipers likely with bigger discs on both ends. The bike is also likely to get an updated suspension setup from WP itself which is fully adjustable for rebound and compression. The 790 Duke R also appears to get a more aggressive riding position with new rear set foot pegs.
While it will share the 799cc, parallel-twin engine with the standard bike, the ‘R’ version is expected to produce a higher power output. KTM will also be looking at cutting down weight with forged aluminium wheels. While riding modes, ABS and traction control are standard equipment in the segment, the KTM also offers a two-way quickshifter, engine brake control, cornering ABS and stability control on the standard bike. We can expect the 790 Duke R to carry the same electronics package.
KTM is likely to reveal the 790 Duke R at the 2018 EICMA. It is unlikely to arrive in India anytime soon however, the standard 790 Duke is expected to go on sale in 2019. It will compete against the Suzuki GSX-S750 and the Kawasaki Z900.
