The KTM 790 Duke has been spotted testing in Europe. This streetfighter will be the first model to be based on KTM’s new parallel-twin platform, which will also spawn an enduro and an adventure bike apart from Husqvarna models.
The bodywork of the test mule hints that the 790 Duke is very close to production. KTM hasn’t strayed very far from the original concept’s design philosophy. It gets the same split headlamp design and edgy bodywork with a raised and minimalistic tail section. However, it also sported a few unfinished bits like the exhaust system. Under the skin is an 800cc parallel-twin engine, internally called LC8c. The bike will feature ride-by-wire throttle, variable power modes and multi-level traction control.
The KTM 790 Duke will be the successor to the single-cylinder 690 Duke. While the 790 Duke will go on sale globally in 2018, the Indian audience might have to wait a lot longer before it is launched here as a completely built unit (CBU). It will share market space with the likes of the Kawasaki Z900, Ducati Monster 821 and Yamaha MT-09.
