KTM’s upcoming middleweight streetfighter, the 790 Duke, has been spotted undergoing trials outside KTM’s factory in Austria. Unlike the previous rudimentary prototypes, this test mule sported production-ready bodywork styled along the lines of the company’s new design language.
The edgy styling of the 790 Duke draws cues from the new 1290 Super Duke. Some of the interesting bits include the new split headlamp design with LED lamps, orange chain and rear sprocket and the massive flyscreen. Powering the 790 Duke is a parallel-twin LC8c engine with a 270-degree crank. It breathes out of a two-into-one upswept exhaust system. The brake setup on this bike has been sourced from Spanish component manufacturer J. Juan, while the higher-spec variant will get a Brembo setup.
The 790 Duke is expected to be unveiled at EICMA later this year, though it might be a while before it is launched in India. Globally, the KTM 790 Duke will rival the Triumph Street Triple 765, Ducati Monster 821, MV Agusta Brutale 800 and the Yamaha MT-09.
