The new KTM 990 RC R has been unveiled at EICMA 2024. The new supersport succeeds the KTM 890 RC 8C and features several changes to make it a faster and more potent track weapon.
Starting with the design, the new 990 RC R looks purposeful and aggressive. The fairing is smooth, with only a few creases and MotoGP bike-inspired winglets at the front. The fairing gels beautifully with the large fuel tank that contributes to the visual mass of the 990 RC R. The side and tail sections are sharp and we like how the tail section is nicely upswept.
Some interesting design bits include carbon fibre winglets, carbon fibre front fenders, carbon fibre splatter guards and aluminium levers. It also gets a new, crisp-looking TFT display.
The display bike is also covered in a rather fetching shade of KTM orange. On the whole, the 990 RC R looks distinct and that’s going to be one of its strongest USPs.
Under the bodywork, there is a steel trellis frame that is suspended by an adjustable WP fork and monoshock. The bike rides on 17-inch alloy wheels shod with Michelin Powercup tyres. Braking duties, meanwhile, are taken care of by twin discs at the front with radially mounted Brembo calipers and a disc brake at the rear.
The bike is powered by a 990cc LC8c parallel-twin cylinder engine that makes 128bhp and 103Nm. The engine is paired with a six-speed gearbox. One can also spot an Akrapovic exhaust on the display bike.
The new KTM 990 RC R will debut in international markets soon. There is no word on KTM bringing the bike to India.
