- KTM joins hands with GasGas, owned by Black Toro Capital
- GasGas’ current line-up consists of Trials and Enduro motorcycles
- KTM-GasGas JV will result in development of new products
KTM has announced a new partnership with Spanish motorcycle brand GasGas, which is owned by Black Toro Capital. The latter will join Husqvarna to be the third motorcycle brand owned by KTM Industries AG group in Europe.
The current portfolio of GasGas Motorcycles comprises of Trials and Enduro offerings which are developed at its factory in Girona, Spain. As a part of the new industrial cooperation, the existing GasGas bikes will continue to be developed at their current facility, alongside Tarrot electric vehicles. Meanwhile, the joint venture will see both KTM and GasGas developing all-new products. However, it remains to be seen if these bikes will be similar to GasGas’ existing offerings or new road-going machines will be developed.
In India, KTM has had a long-running successful partnership with Bajaj which has spawned a premium product like the Dominar 400 which utilizes the 390 Duke’s powerplant. The Austrian bikemaker is all set to further strengthen its foothold in India by introducing Husqvarna motorcycles which will be launched here soon.
If the joint venture between KTM and GasGas results in the development of new Enduro and Trial bikes, it is unlikely that these offerings will come to India as there’s lack of demand for such motorcycles. However, rumours suggest that both brands will jointly develop electric bikes. If that happens, the resultant products might reach several markets globally.
