KTM is working on a new set of 500cc and 800cc motorcycle platform that will go into production in the next three years. This new platform will see motorcycles powered by parallel twin engines and may be manufactured in India at Bajaj’s Chakan plant.
This news was confirmed by Stefan Pierer, CEO, KTM to Overdrive at the 2014 Auto Expo. The top honcho of KTM also mentioned bringing the 690 Duke to India but they also acknowledged the fact that assembling the bike here won’t be financially viable due to less sales volumes. Secondly, bringing this bike through the completely-built-up (CBU) route will shoot up the price drastically making it impractical.
The Austrian maker is also working on a new off-road platform which will use an engine from the current range of motorcycles. We expect it to be from the Duke 390. A few months ago, the company had confirmed to build an adventure bike on the 390 platform. So it makes more sense to use the 390 Duke platform for the off- roader as well.
