KTM confirms 390 and 690-based Husqvarna models for 2017

KTM have confirmed that the Husqvarna Vitpilen motorcycles will go into production soon, these motorcycles are based on the 390 and 690 platforms already being produced. KTM gave away these details on annual reports that reveal details of its future plans.

Husqvarna’s forthcoming 390-based Vitpilen 401 and Svartpilen are likely to be made in India, at the Bajaj-KTM plant in Chakan, Pune. After being shown as concepts in 2014, Husqvarna has already confirmed its return with the 373cc 401 Vitpilen (based on the KTM Duke 390 and RC 390) and its scrambler Svarpilen stablemate, along with a 125cc variant (based on the KTM Duke 125 and RC 125).

KTM’s annual report says, “For 2017 the next step will be realised with the arrival of the first two Vitpilen production models.” Which means there could be more than two models in the future.

The Vitpilen 701, just like the Husqvarna Supermoto and Enduro 701, is based on the KTM 690cc liquid-cooled single that produces 66bhp and 70Nm of torque. With the typical gear, such as a suspension package from KTM's subsidiary WP and radial Brembo brakes.

Both motorcycles based on the 390 are expected to make their way to the roads by 2017 and will be sold in India through the KTM dealerships. However, it is unlikely that the 690-based Vitpilen 701 will reach Indian shores.
