- New 500cc parallel-twin engine platform under development
- Will be made in India by Bajaj
- Likely to see naked, adventure, supersport bikes from this new platform
Just a few days ago, we reported about a rumour that revolved around two big brands – KTM and Ducati. KTM top boss Stefan Pierer expressed interest in purchasing the Italian brand. But the news now, a big one, is not a rumour and has directly come from the horses’ mouth.
KTM is developing a new 500cc parallel-twin engine platform that is likely to debut in the next 3-4 years. This new platform is being developed for emerging markets like India. But the big news here is, the bikes that will be built around this platform will be manufactured in India at Bajaj’s Chakan plant.
The top honcho refused to divulge any details on this development but it’s obvious to see a naked, adventure and supersport bikes coming out of this. The expected launch schedule hasn’t been revealed, but we can expect the first models to come out post 2021.
A lot of manufacturers are focusing on the 500cc-800cc segment for future growth. KTM has readied the 790 Adventure and the 790 Duke already. The next course of action is to focus on the 500cc twin and we are quite excited about it.
