If rumours are to be believed, then we won’t see the KTM E-Speed making its way to the global market anytime soon. First revealed at the Tokyo Motor Show, the E-Speed created a lot of buzz around the electric scooters and was expected to see the production line in 2015.
Based on the Freeride E, which was recently unveiled at the 2014 Intermot show, the E-speed was positioned as an urban stylish electric scooter with zero-emission. One of the major reasons for this project getting shelved was because the E-Speed wasn’t fitting in KTM’s traditional DNA of “Ready to Race”.
The E-Speed is powered by a liquid-cooled permanent-magnet synchronous motor which produces 14.75bhp and 36Nm of torque. Electricity is stored in a package of cutting-edge lithium-ion batteries with a capacity of 4.36kWh that is fully charged within two hours on a regular 220V socket.
This scooter weighs 140kg and can achieve a top speed of 80kmph. With one full charge, the scooter can travel a distance 64 kms. The scooter also features day time running lamps, regenerative brakes with 220mm discs, ABS and 14-inch alloy wheels.
KTM is known to take its products to a completely different level. We would love to see KTM resuming the electric scooter project and making a difference to the world with their zero-emission vehicle.
