Motorcycles are behind the curve when it comes to things like displaying information - only recently have we been introduced to colour screens and touchscreens, and the logical next step is a heads-up display. KTM's first step towards this is an investment in NUVIZ, a manufacturer of HUD systems.
KTM is one of the first manufacturers to commit to a TFT colour display for a small-displacement motorcycle in the 390 Duke, and has been offering it on its bigger models for a while now. NUVIZ has raised around Rs 60 crore, out of which KTM can claim to have contributed Rs 33 million. It also gets a seat on NUVIZ's board of directors.
BMW had announced some time ago that it will offer a similar HUD system with speakers, and Kawasaki's upcoming AI-enabled motorcycles will no doubt feature an HUD system at some point. Interesting times lie ahead for those who ride.
