KTM may launch 180cc-190cc motorcycle in India

Few days back, we had reported about launch of the KTM Duke 390 next year with official changes to KTM’s website. The company is now also planning to go one step down and entry mass market by launching a motorcycle displacing 180cc to 190cc with a very competitive price tag.

Taking to media KTM global CEO Stefan Pierer said, "I would say that our 125cc model is a very specific displacement for the European market because that's in the moped class that you can ride at the age of 16. ForIndia, I think we will launch an 180cc or 190cc model."

"We can become 10 times the size what we are right now. But I have learned that Indians a very price-sensitive market. If we can offer three different models and several displacements, I think we can achieve a target of selling 80,000 units. I have a vision that in the next three-to-four years we will roll-out 100,000 units from the Bajaj's Pune production facility.

The new motorcycle will be based on the current Duke 200, but will shed many features to cut price. It might also share more components with the current Pulsar range to gain economies of scale. We expect to get more details of the new motorcycle at the launch of the Duke 390, with the possible roll-out date in the third quarter of 2013.
