KTM has revised the prices of its motorcycle range in India to offset the impact of Goods and Service Tax (GST). While previous reports had hinted at a price hike across the range, the company has in fact reduced the prices of the 200 Duke, RC200 and the 250 Duke in several states.
With GST coming into effect from 1 July, motorcycles have seen a drop in taxes from 30 per cent to 28 per cent. However, the motorcycles displacing more than 350cc now also attract a cess of three per cent, bringing the total tax up to 31 per cent.
As such, there has been a significant reduction in prices of the 200 Duke, RC200 and the 250 Duke. In Maharashtra, the 200 Duke is more affordable by ₹ 6,774, the RC200 by ₹ 8,111 and the 250 Duke by ₹ 8,143. Even the 390 Duke and the RC390 have received a price cut of ₹ 5,205 and ₹ 5,301 respectively. However for the states in the north east and the union territories, there has been a hike in prices ranging from ₹ 2,227 to ₹ 8,686. In Delhi, the prices for sub-350cc models have gone down while the 390cc range has received a hike.
The price hikes and the cuts are applicable on the ex-showroom price tag of the motorcycles. As such, there should be a bigger impact on the on-road prices.
