Kawasaki has been selling all their completely-knocked-down (CKD) bikes through Bajaj’s Probiking showrooms that also sell KTM products. However, the alliance between the companies for selling CKD bikes has come to an end.
Most KTM showrooms have stopped selling Kawasakis – the Z250, Ninja 300, ER6n, Versys 650 and the Ninja 650. This is the reason why these bikes aren’t on display in KTM showrooms. In fact, some showrooms have decided to take off the Kawasaki branding too to avoid any confusion. As per the deal between Bajaj and Kawasaki, KTM showrooms will continue to sell Kawasaki CKD bikes till March 31, 2017. But it looks like the dealers have already stopped ordering bikes from Kawasaki to avoid extra stock.
KTM dealers are also responsible for servicing Kawasaki bikes. But with this development, it will be interesting to see what happens with service for Kawasakis sold through Probiking dealers. We spoke to a few KTM dealers who said that they will continue to service Kawasaki bikes till March 31. But they are unclear on what will happen after the deadline.
We spoke with Kawasaki who had no comment, other than the necessary information will disseminated at the appropriate time.
If you’re in the market for CKD Kawasaki bikes, this might be the right time to head to the KTM showroom. You might get some discounts if there already is a model in stock, but remember that you’ll have to gamble on the service front.
