KTM has sold 1,23,859 units in 2013, while BMW Motorrad sold 1,15,215 products including motorcycles and maxi scooters for the same period. The landmark achieved by the Bavarian company was crossed by the Austrian manufacturer with a difference of 12 per cent.

The annual sales numbers by KTM for 2013 show an increase of 15.6 per cent in contrast to the corresponding period in 2012. Similarly a hike of 17 per cent in the company’s revenues is also foreseen.

Though BMW has a firm foothold in the US, the manufacturer mostly caters to the big-bore adventure-touring bikes and other premium segment motorcycles only. However, BMW’s portfolio does not include any small-displacement two-wheelers in their line-up which KTM has covered up for.

From the 125cc to 200cc bikes, the RC 390, from the sport segment to the Duke 390, from the naked bike segment, all are offered as affordable small displacement motorcycles by KTM. Majority  of the sales numbers were boosted due to the sales of such products along with the other premium bikes used for track and adventure purpose.

KTM’s global sales were further helped by their strategy of offering motorcycles in less traditional markets across the world. The company currently sells the Duke 200 and the Duke 390 in India. The RC390 and RC200 will also be soon offered in the country adding to the delight of the KTM fans and enthusiasts back here. Both the motorcycles are expected to be brought to the Delhi Auto Expo scheduled for next month. We will keep you updated about the recent happenings, so stay tuned to BikeWale.
