KTM hosted one of the largest arenas at this year’s India Bike Week in Goa. While the highly anticipated 390 Adventure was the showstopper for KTM, the brand had much more to exhibit which intrigued the viewers and us alike. Besides the 790 Adventure and 1290 Super Duke, the Austrian bike maker’s competition line-up was something that drew bucket-loads of attention.
We are talking about KTM’s MotoGP, Moto3, Dakar and Motocross machines which proudly struck a pose at the event. Well, these bikes are truly special given the fact that we don’t get to see them on public roads but only on the dedicated tracks where the professionals go blazing on them. Having said that, let’s take a look at the pictures and details of KTM’s competition bikes showcased at the 2019 IBW.
KTM RC16 MotoGP:
The RC16 is the motorcycle astride which KTM’s official pilot Pol Espargaro currently competes in MotoGP, the premier class of road racing. This is the event in which world’s fastest race bikes compete and the RC16’s spec sheet clearly shows why it is a part of it.
Weighing 157kgs dry, the motorcycle is powered by a 1000cc, V4 motor which belts out in excess of 250bhp of power, coming in at 19,000rpm. It gets components such as aluminum swingarm and titanium Akrapovic exhaust which aid in weight saving. For keeping all that madness in check, it also gets top-notch electronics such as traction control, wheelie control, engine braking and quickshifter, along with Brembo brakes and WP suspension.
KTM RC250 Moto3:
Moto3 is also a part of the Grand Prix motorcycle racing, similar to MotoGP, but this category comprises of smaller displacement motorcycles. And, KTM’s steed for the contest is the extremely light and compact RC250. It is propelled by a 248cc, single-cylinder, DOHC motor working in tandem with a six-speed gearbox. While the manufacturer hasn’t revealed its power figures, its dry weight of as low as 81kg hints at its agility. The RC250 is based on a tubular steel trellis with adjustable headstock and swingarm. While the suspension set up is sourced from WP, tyres come from Dunlop.
KTM 450 Dakar Rally:
The adventure riding enthusiasts would know that Dakar is the most challenging of all rallies held across the world and KTM has been unbeatable for 18 years straight. Helping the brand set this record is the hooligan you see in the picture above. Of all the mind-boggling specifications of the bike, the most astonishing is the suspension travel – 300mm for front and rear both, which helps it glide through the demanding terrains in the rally.
Based on a chromium molybdenum frame, the motorcycle packs a 449cc, single-cylinder motor power figures of which haven't been disclosed by the brand. Weighing at 140kg (dry), the 450 Rally boasts of a fuel tank capacity of 33 litres!
KTM 150 SX Motocross:
Motocross is a type of off-road racing in which the daredevils go jumping and sliding on their feather light and minimalistic motorcycles, like the KTM 150 SX you see here. Although the company doesn’t reveal full specs of this bike, traits like 950mm of seat height and 87.5kg of dry weight exemplify its off-road prowess. Adding to this are the chunky, long-travel WP suspension and knobby off-road tyres. Lastly, the motorcycle is powered by a compact 143.99cc, single-cylinder motor.
