- Indian FTR 1200-based adventure bike to be introduced in 2020
- Will compete against the Harley-Davidson Pan America
- Expected to be launched in India in 2021
Rumours about the Indian FTR 1200-based adventure motorcycle have been doing rounds on the internet for a while now. Reports suggest that this ADV will be official introduced next year. Now, to further back these reports, a leaked document also indicates that the motorcycle will make its global debut next year, as a MY2021 model.
In the leaked document, the adventure motorcycle in question has been listed under a column named ‘Apollo’. Perhaps, this is an internal name of the engine which powers the FTR 1200 flat tracker, and will be employed in the ADV as well. This 1203cc, liquid-cooled, DOHC, V-twin motor churns out 125bhp and 117.9Nm on the FTR. However, this powerplant is likely to be tuned differently for the adventure bike.
In terms of cycle parts, the ADV will be profoundly different from the FTR. The American bikemaker will equip the motorcycle with adventure-oriented components such as a new frame, long travel suspension and larger wheels shod with dual-purpose tyres. Similar to its flat tracker sibling, the upcoming Indian will come loaded with electronic aids such as traction control, wheelie control, lean-sensitive stability control and riding modes.
In the full-size adventure segment, the motorcycle will compete against the Harley-Davidson’s upcoming Pan America, besides the already popular models such as the BMW R1250GS and Triumph Tiger 1200. And looking at the growing popularity of adventure motorcycles in India, the American bike maker will most likely introduce this bike here as well, perhaps in 2021.
