- System to use multiple cameras to analyse the road surface
- Onboard system to analyse factors to adjust traction control and ABS
- Launch timeline not available yet
BMW Motorrad is working on a new traction control system that senses the road surface. The update was revealed by leaked patent documents. Through the new tech, the onboard computer will analyse the road surface and adjust the traction control and ABS tech accordingly.
The system will comprise of multiple cameras that would aim at the road ahead to create a real-time image of the surface. Apart from the road surface, the onboard computer will also process information about the throttle position, speed of the motorcycle, steering angle, lean angle, pressure on the brakes and the tyre pressure system. The new tech could be seen on multiple products from the Bavarian brand. This system can be particularly useful on touring and adventure motorcycles.
Besides the road-sensing traction control system, BMW Motorrad is also working on an active aerodynamic system and a radar-based Active Cruise Control system for its motorcycles.
