- New KLX 230 launch in early 2025
- Likely to get localised components
- Price to be around Rs 4 lakh (ex-showroom)
Kawasaki is planning to expand its off-road bike lineup. The company has been testing the KLX 230 for a few months and is planning an India launch in early 2025.
The KLX 230 is a road-legal dual-sport motorcycle that is already on sale in some of the international markets. In India, Kawasaki sells the KLX 230R S, which is priced at Rs 5.21 lakh (ex-showroom). This motorcycle can’t be ridden on public roads and can only be inside a private land or controlled environment.
With the KLX 230, it looks like Kawasaki wants to offer a motorcycle that has a dirt bike connection, but can also be ridden on the road. The bike has been going under exhausting tests in India, and from those pictures, we can see the presence of headlights, number plates and also taillight – necessary parts to have to be road legal.
This Kawasaki gets its power from a 233cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine which makes just 19bhp and 20.6Nm. That said, the international market gets two trims of the KLX 230 – standard and S. We think, the bike would be launched in India in the S variant. It gets 830mm of seat height which is much more accessible than the standard model’s 884mm.
The KLX 230 not only looks compact but also weighs just 131kg. Its overall setup too is quite simple – gaitered telescopic front forks and a monoshock with a front and rear disc brake. It gets a 21-inch front and an 18-inch rear spoke wheel setup with block pattern tyres.
The Japanese brand is planning to localise a few things like tyres, turn indicators, batteries and some more to reduce the overall price. But due to its Kawasaki branding, the KLX 230 is likely to be priced above Rs 4 lakh (ex-showroom).
