Movistar Yamaha has announced that they will part ways with Jorge Lorenzo for the 2017 season. This news also confirms that the reigning world champion will switch to Ducati for the next two seasons.
Jorge Lorenzo will ride for Ducati in 2017 and 2018. Lorenzo, born in Palma de Mallorca on 4 May, 1987, has won five world championship titles throughout his racing career (250cc in 2006 and 2007 and MotoGP in 2010, 2012 and 2015). All of his MotoGP wins were with Yamaha and this will be the first time he will be riding with another factory.
Rumours regarding the move have been circulating since a few weeks, so far as to Valentino Rossi confirming the news. Ducati is likely to offer a highly lucrative deal for the Spaniard, backed by the combined finances of long-time sponsors. Ducati is enthusiastic to see the team return to winning races and championships.
We will first see Lorenzo on the Desmosedici GP bike at the Valencian test immediately after the final round of the series in November.
