-Gets steel wheels, conventional physical key
-Doesn’t have a lockable glove box
-Will tackle low-cost variants of Ola and TVS
Bajaj is gearing up to launch a new Chetak on 20 December. While there is word that there will be an electric scooter based on a new platform, Bajaj is also likely to introduce a low-cost Chetak. This EV will sit below the premium Chetak range and is meant to attract more buyers to the Chetak family.
The scooter in question has already been spotted in the past and there are quite cost cutting measures that Bajaj has employed. This is clear in the new steel wheels and drum brakes at both ends unlike the alloy wheels and front disc brake setup on the current Chetak.
One can also spot the absence of a lockable glove box behind the front apron. Instead you’ve got two, open storage cubbies that seem deep enough to store a phone and other small items like a wallet. One can also see a physical ignition key instead of the keyless ignition system on the premium Chetaks.
The low-cost Bajaj Chetak will also get a monochrome LCD display instead of the fancy TFT. As for the battery and motor specifications, details are not out yet. That said, we could see the scooter offer a range of around 90-100km and a top speed of approximately 60-70kmph.
Expect Bajaj to price the low cost Chetak quite competitively to take on the low cost variants of the Ola S1 range, the TVS iQube and the Ather Rizta.
