Made in India electric sports bike to be unveiled at 2018 Auto Expo

There’s a Tesla in the making and that too in India. The company goes by the name Emflux Motors and is based out of Bengaluru.

Emflux is developing an electric high performance sports bike that is expected to go on sale in India next year. This start-up has recently secured funding from a group of investors that will help them develop a prototype and get it to the production line. This model will debut at the 2018 Auto Expo, which will be held in February next year. As per the company's website, this yet-to-be named electric sports bike can go from 0-100kmph in under 3.5 seconds and has a top speed of 170kmph. There's a commuting range of 200km if ridden sanely (but it’s a sports bike right?). The bike will take 36 minutes to charge from 0-80 per cent from a fast DC charge station.

The Bengaluru-based company will be developing everything in-house from styling to the development of motor and the chassis. While the company hasn’t talked about the price of this electric bike, rumours suggest that it will hover around Rs 5 lakh. The company would limit the production of this bike to just 199 units, after which it plans to launch another electric bike which  will be slower and much cheaper. The riding range for the second bike would be less too at 150km. The company would setup a charging point at the buyer’s premises. In fact, it plans to setup charging stations across major cities – the same thing that Tesla did it in US.

The acceptance of electric vehicles is still at a nascent stage due to lack of proper infrastructure and the cost of the product. It has been months since Ather unveiled the S340 electric scooter and Torq launched the T6X. But neither of them have hit the Indian roads yet, citing various development reasons.
