- Becomes the second state to wave off subsidy after Goa
- 64,539 two-wheelers benefited from the policy
- Buyers can still avail of the FAME II subsidy
Following Goa, the Maharashtra state government too has now withdrawn the state subsidy from electric vehicles. So, here's what you should know.
The Maharashtra state subsidy scheme was introduced back in July 2021 and was aimed to be in effect until December 2021. However, the government extended the tenure until March 2022. So, as per the last effective date of Maharashtra state subsidy, 64,539 electric two-wheelers have benefited.
As per the initial plan, the first 1 lakh two-wheelers were eligible for a Rs 5,000 incentive per kWh battery capacity of their EV. The amount was capped at Rs 10,000 and the state government even rolled out an early buyer scheme of Rs 15,000 for a purchase of a 3kWh battery-powered EV.
That said, electric vehicle buyers in Maharashtra can now only avail of the FAME II. This means the EV(s) will now be a little more expensive than before. For reference, the Ather 450X Gen 3 retailed at Rs 1,46 lakh with the state subsidy in Maharashtra. But it'll now cost Rs 1.56 lakh since the benefit has been waved off. It won't be a surprise if other states across the country follow the trend with the current demand for EVs.
