Maharashtra labour minister Hasan Mushrif will be meeting the Bajaj Auto management and the workers union to try resolving the issues between the two groups. The Chakan plant workers have been on strike since June 25 demanding a revision in their wages.
Over 1500 workers from the plant have been a part of this agitation demanding that the company allot 500 equity shares to each worker at a price of Rs 1 per share. They are also demanding the reinstatement of 15 workers who were sacked last December. However the management had opposed it and had asked the striking workers to resume operations at the Chakan facility.
"The standoff between the Bajaj Auto management and the trade union continues. The meeting called by the labour commissioner did not arrive at an amicable agreement between the two sides. Therefore, I have decided to meet the sides within a week to find a way out," said Hasan Muhsrif, Maharashtra labour minister to Business Standard.
“We cannot agree with the management’s proposal to first rejoin work and increase production and after a fortnight, it would decide the fate of the 15 suspended workers," said Mahesh Khanapurkar, office bearer of Vishwa Kalyan Kamgar Sanghatna.
