- DSK Motowheels hands charge over to Mahavir Group.
- New assembly plant might come up in Hyderabad.
- To continue offering support to existing owners.
DSK Motowheels will be handing over Benelli India's operations to Mahavir Group. The Hyderabad-based conglomerate runs several automotive dealerships, including one of Benelli.
Benelli commenced its operations in India in October 2014 with DSK Motowheels. The brand struck the right chord with the Indian audience, thanks to models like the TNT 600i, TNT 300 and the TNT 25. DSK Motowheels set up 25 dealerships across the country, giving the brand a good penetration in Tier-2 cities. However, DSK Group recently ran into financial and legal troubles, putting a question mark over the fate of dealerships and existing owners.
Now, Benelli has found a new patron for its operations in India. Mahavir Group, an automotive conglomerate, will be taking over the reins from DSK Motowheels. They own authorised dealerships of Mercedes-Benz, Skoda, Isuzu, Benelli and Indian Motorcycles in Telengana and Andhra Pradesh. The group is contemplating setting up a new assembly facility in Hyderabad. While this spells relief for existing owners, as the company will continue to offer after-sales support, there is no clarity on whether Mahavir Group will disperse the existing dealership network or continue using it.
