Marc Marquez re-established his superiority in MotoGP by putting up an impressive show at the Grand Prix of The Americas. The 22-year-old Spaniard registered his first victory of the season by crossing the chequered flag 2.3 seconds ahead of the competition at the Circuit Of The Americas, in Austin.
Though the cloudy weather threatened to play spoilsport, the bright sun soon took over the track which saw the temperature rise up to 35 degrees, by the time the race had begun. Marquez qualified for the race on pole position, though Andrea Dovizioso, riding the formidable Ducati GP15 took a 0.5 second lead over the Honda at the start of the race. Marquez however, seemed to have other plans as he took the lead in the fifth lap, after which there was no looking back. At one point, the race even saw Marquez lead the pack by over 5 seconds, though he eventually slowed down his pace to win the race by 2.354 seconds.
Dovizioso finished in second place after a long duel with Valentino Rossi, who completed the podium. Rossi’s team mate Jorge Lorenzo snatched the fourth position from Ducati rider Andrea Iannone with only three laps to go on his Yamaha YZR-M1, with the latter having to settle for the fifth position.
The next MotoGP race will take place at the Termas de Río Hondo track in Argentina, between April 17 and April 19.
