Marc Marquez registered his second win of the season by claiming the top spot on the podium at the Sachsenring circuit in Saxony, Germany. With Marquez’s team mate Dani Pedrosa finishing second, Honda swept the first two positions at the German Grand Prix, helping it inch closer to Yamaha in the overall constructor’s standings.
Marquez had qualified on the pole position for the race, though he was passed by Lorenzo in the initial laps. Marquez immediately struck back, reclaiming his position and putting up a comfortable lead over his rivals, eventually finishing the race in the first position. Current championship leader Valentino Rossi occupied the last spot on the podium behind the Honda duo, while his Yamaha team mate Jorge Lorenzo came in fourth. Ducati rider Andrea Iannone finished in the fifth position.
The victory at the German Grand Prix is the second win for Marquez this season, since his triumph at the Grand Prix of the Americas in Austin, Texas. The track has been a favourite of the 22-year-old Spaniard since his 125cc racing days, as he has won all six races in the past six years at the Sachsenring circuit. The next round of the 2015 MotoGP Championship will be held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indiana, United States between August 7 and August 9.
