Marc Marquez has moved to the third spot in the 2015 MotoGP Championship, by claiming a victory in the Indianapolis MotoGP. With this win, the 22-year-old Spaniard narrowed the gap between him and the scoreboard leader, Valentino Rossi, to just 56 points.
This is the fifth consecutive MotoGP victory for Marquez at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, including two race wins in the Moto2 categories. However, the victory didn’t come without a struggle as Marquez had to fight it out with Jorge Lorenzo for the top position. Despite scoring the pole position in the qualifiers, Marquez was passed by Lorenzo in the first corner as the 28-year-old Yamaha rider got off to a better start. The two Spaniards kept switching positions till the third-last lap of the race when Marquez passed Lorenzo and kept his lead till the end of the race.
Rossi put up a brilliant display to occupy the last spot on the podium, moving up from the eighth position. He was successful in fending off the attacks from Honda rider Dani Pedrosa, who finished fourth. Ducati rider Andrea Iannone finished in the fifth position.
The 11th round of MotoGP will take place on August 16 at the Brno circuit, in the Czech Republic.
