Gujarat-based electric two-wheeler startup, Matter, has finally launched its electric motorcycle, the Aera in India. The motorcycle was unveiled in November last year and now it has been introduced in five different variants. In case you’re intrigued by this bike and might consider buying one, here are the highlights of the motorcycle.
Matter Aera: Design and Features
The Aera looks similar to many 200-300cc ICE motorcycles which is a compliment in itself. It boasts an aggressive stance with sharp and angular design lines all over the bodywork. The front comprises a low-slung headlamp which is accompanied by a muscular fuel tank-like mid-section while the rear sports an upswept tail.
Feature-wise, the Aera is decently loaded. All the information is displayed on a TFT instrument cluster which gets smartphone connectivity and shows ample data about the vehicle and trips. You also get access to navigation and call and message alerts on the screen. Meanwhile, other features include OTA updates, keyless operation, and a small storage unit at the front.
Matter Aera: Battery and Motor Specifications
The Matte Aera is propelled by a 10kW motor which extracts juices from a 5kWh battery pack. Interestingly, the battery of the Aera gets liquid cooling for keeping the temperatures in check and preventing thermal runaway. Using a regular charging setup, the battery can be topped up in five hours while the charging time comes down by two hours in the case of a fast charger. Once fully charged, it’s claimed to deliver a riding range of 120-150km. If that’s not impressive enough, one gets access to a four-speed gearbox for a conventional motorcycle-like experience.
Matter Aera: Cycle Parts
Similar to most petrol-powered motorcycles, the Aera rides on 17-inch alloy wheels that are suspended by telescopic forks up front and dual gas-charged shock absorbers at the rear. Typical of premium EVs, braking is handled by a single disc at both ends which are assisted by a dual-channel ABS setup.
Matter Aera: Pricing and Variants
The Matter Aera will be available in four different variants - Aera 4000, Aera 5000, Aera 5000+, and the Aera 6000+. As of now, prices have been announced only for the 5000 and 5000+ variants which cost Rs 1,43,999 and Rs 1,53,999, respectively (both ex-showroom PAN India, including FAME II). These variants mainly differ in terms of available features. Also, do note that these prices are introductory and may go through an increment anytime soon.
