If you’ve never heard of Midalu, it’s because they’re a boutique motorcycle manufacturer from the Czech Republic. It made waves in 2011 when the motorcycle was announced. Now, however, the first production motorcycle is complete and the company is accepting orders for a princely sum of Euro 120,000. That’s Rs 88.5 lakh today, before taxes and duties.
The motorcycle has a number of things that are exclusive to it, beginning with the 90-degree V6 engine that generates 240 bhp and 200 Nm. The frame is a trellis one, and there are a number of machined aluminium parts like that swingarm. Though it is claimed to be a street bike, the engine and weight will put it more in the ‘power cruiser’ segment with the likes of the Ducati Diavel. However, that sticker price catapults it firmly into the ‘exotic’ bracket. The kind of buyer who will want one isn’t likely to be fazed by the price, though. The Midalu 2500 V6 is very much in the mould of Confederate Motorcycles, but with a European flavour – think Munch Mammut 2000 – and it isn’t just a motorcycle, it is a feat of engineering that has taken over a decade to get into production. It isn’t going to have the telepathic electronic abilities of today’s crotch rockets, but that is something that will appeal to a certain class of buyer.
The company had stated in 2011 that it was targeting a production run of six units in the first year of production. Don’t expect an official India launch, but expect that already eye-watering price to more than double if an example makes it to India.
