- Yamaha R15S in the works
- Could be based on R15 V3
- Is likely to be launched in coming months
Yamaha is expected to launch a new variant of the R15 in India soon, leaked type approval documents have revealed. The motorcycle will be called the R15 S.
Now, this is not the first time Yamaha had an R15 S variant on offer. Back when the R15 V2 was launched, the company introduced an R15 S that came with the same styling and bodywork as the V1, and was more affordable. We believe, this would be the case with this new R15 S as well. The R15 V4 is priced close to Rs 1.70 lakh; an increase of around Rs 10,000 over the R15 V3.
So, this new R15 S variant is likely to be based on the R15 V3 and miss out on the USD forks, quick-shifter, and traction control from the V4 to keep costs in check. It would not only bring in more buyers but also help in clearing previous stock. Nonetheless, as the type approval documents reveal, the R15 S would be slightly more powerful than the R15 V4 which will continue to retail as the flagship model in the line-up.
We can expect Yamaha to launch the new R15 S by the end of this year and come with refreshed colour options and an affordable price tag.
