- Bajaj Chetak entry-level model launch soon
- Likely to get a smaller battery
- Can have a price tag of around Rs 1 lakh
Bajaj Auto is gearing up to launch its most affordable Chetak electric scooter. This new EV is likely to be launched by May.
According to the top honcho of the company, the company will be targeting a large chunk of buyers who are looking for affordable electric scooters. This mass-market EV will sit below the Urbane variant and is likely to have a starting price of around Rs 1 lakh (ex-showroom).
This new Chetak model will mostly feature a hub motor to keep costs in check. Plus, the battery capacity will be less too. In fact, a few months ago, a prototype of this model was spotted testing. This test mule was seen with the same body components as the models that are on sale. So, in terms of aesthetics, this variant will look exactly like the rest of the Chetak line-up. But there’s a high chance a lot of features could be removed for Bajaj to bring down the actual cost.
A few days ago Ola reduced to price of the S1X to Rs 70,000 making it an extremely attractive purchase. Even Ather introduced its family scooter – the Rizta, which has a starting price of Rs 1.12 lakh. With these new entrants, it is clear that Bajaj also wants to make its presence felt in the entry-level e-scooter segment. Currently, the Chetak is the third highest-selling EV in the country. With this new variant, it could take on the TVS iQube which is the second-highest-selling e-scooter.
