- Will be held to spread awareness of the importance of helmets
- Over 20 artists will be showcasing their skills of helmet customisation
- The customised helmets will be later displayed in various motorcycle events
Moto Art Show, an art event organising company, will be hosting India’s first-of-its-kind custom helmet art exhibition – Helmets for India. With the aim to spread awareness to wear helmets while riding, this exhibition will see over 20 artists showcasing their talent by customizing helmets in their own ways. Helmets for India will be held on 24 March at the Bombay Art Society in Mumbai.
The founder of the project, Niels Peter Jensen, is an extreme sports athlete, TV host and designer. During the filming of a TV show in India in 2018, Neils had noticed numerous riders plying through busy streets without wearing helmet. Following this, he decided to conduct an exhibition such as the Helmet for India to make people aware of the importance of practising this safety measure. Accompanying the artists who will customise the helmets will be popular names including D*Face from the UK, Patrik Muff from Germany, Magnus walker and Steve Caballero from the US. Meanwhile, the line-up of Indian artists includes Eimor Customs, IRONic, Mallika Prakash, Moto Machao and Womeneoteric Customs.
The helmets customised at the Moto Art Show will be showcased at various motorcycle events around the world. By the end of 2019, the helmets will be auctioned and the accumulated funds will reportedly be utilised to support a non-profit association in India. Interestingly, the group behind the Helmets for India project will also give away helmets from various brands and it aims to distribute 1000 units of them this year.
Owing to the chaotic traffic and irresponsible driving/riding habits of many Indians, the riders are highly prone to meet with accidents and get injured. Moreover, injuries sustained on the head may result in serious consequences. Considering these aspects, initiative such as Helmets for India appears to be an important and praise-worthy step for the safety of riders.
