Piaggio is planning to launch the V9 Roamer and V9 Bobber before the end of this month. First showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo, these motorcycles will rub shoulders with the Ducati Scrambler and the Triumph Street Twin.
Since it was launched a few months ago, the Ducati Scrambler has turned out to be quite popular among the Indian audience. The Street Twin on the other hand, has become Triumph’s top-selling model, proving that the market for such niche models is growing rapidly. Speaking to the media during the roll out of the first Aprilia SR 150 at the Baramati facility, Stefano Pelle, MD and CEO of Piaggio said that they were going to counter the Ducati Scrambler with the V9 Roamer and the V9 Bobber.
While the Moto Guzzi V7 Stornello Scrambler is a direct rival to these models globally, the Italian group has decided to bring the V9 Roamer and V9 Bobber to India. Both these models would imported as completely built units, commanding a price tag starting from Rs 13.48 lakh. Both the Moto Guzzi V9 bikes are based on the smaller V7’s steel twin-tube cradle frame, though the powertrain is bigger and more versatile. Both the motorcycles get an air and oil-cooled 850cc V-twin engine, delivering 54bhp and 62Nm of torque. Being cruisers, the V9 siblings will also rival the Harley-Davidson Iron 883.
