The MotoGP race of Valencia 2017 will go down as one of the strangest ones in recent times. It had none of the expected action, appeared to be boring at the start, and eventually the mathematical probabilities won out... against the odds.
Marquez lost a championship two years ago because he prioritised wins over everything else. Lesson learned, he changed tactics and opted for consistency last season, and the results speak for themselves. This year, he repeated it, rare mistakes coupled with how-did-he-do-that saves that meant he finished no lower than sixth place. Six wins during the course of the season helped, of course. The race at Valencia turned out to be an exciting one anyway, but in the end it was Marquez who ended up on top, winning his fourth premier class title. He rolled a giant die at the end of his race, and fittingly enough, it fell with the six facing up. Six wins, a low of sixth position, and a total of six world titles for Marquez.
On to the next season, where excitement awaits. Some new faces, some old ones in new seats, and some, like the Yamahas, hopefully in seats that are improved.
