-Jorge Martin finishes second
-Enea Bastianini crosses the line in third
-Marc Marquez rises from P13 to P4
The 2024 MotoGP Austrian Grand Prix turned out to be quite an interesting spectacle with the high speed circuit offering some close racing and a platform for Ducati Lenovo Factory Team’s Pecco Bagnia to stretch his lead in the Championship.
Pecco rules
Bagnaia has always been quick at the Red Bull Ring in Austria and this weekend wasn’t any different. He not only clinched the win in the Sprint but also dominated the main race. Such was his pace that even Prima Pramac Racing’s Jorge Martin had no answer.
Bagnaia made a good start as the lights went out but Martin managed to beat him to the first corner and grab the lead. However, with 27 laps to go, Baganaia made a brilliant move on the inside of Martin and snatched the lead from him.
As the race progressed, Bagnaia controlled the pace and responded to any attempt by Jorge to close the gap. Eventually, the pace was just too hot for the rest of the field to pose any threat to Pecco.
Magnificent Marquez
Marc Marquez had a poor start to the, colliding with Fanky Morbidelli on the Prima Pramac Ducati, while braking for Turn One, at the start of the race. Marquez fell to P13 after being forced to run wide. This setback however, didn’t deter the multiple World Champion to mount an attack on everyone ahead of him.
Marquez passed a number of riders, some in spectacular fashion to end up crossing the line in P4. This was easily one of his strongest comebacks in recent times. The third spot on the podium would’ve definitely gone to Marc, if not for the first lap collision. Enea Bastianini was the one who crossed the finish line in P3.
Close Championship
At the end of the Austrian GP, Pecco Bagnaia leads the 2024 MotoGP World Championship at 275 points. Jorge Martin is second at 270 points while Enea Bastianini is third with 214 points.
The next race will be held at MotorLand Aragon from 30 August to 1 September.
