MotoGP 2024: Ducati's Pecco Bagnaia wins the German GP

-Bagnaia leads the Championship by 10 points

-Jorge Martin crashes out of the lead with two laps to go

-Marc Marquez finishes second after starting in P13

The 2024 German Grand Prix at the Sachsenring turned out to be a proper entertainer with some late race drama that in the end saw Ducati Lenovo Team’s Pecco Bagnaia emerge victorious.

Pecco the impeccable

Pecco Baganaia who had been struggling to keep up with Jorge Martin throughout the weekend rode a very measured and mature race. Starting from the second row of the Grid, Bagnaia made sure he was in the leading field within the first couple of laps. Bagnaia then made a surprise move on Martin and took the lead of the race, with Martin and his Prima Pramac Racing’s Franco Morbidelli chasing behind. Pecco looked like he would once again sail into the distance but a few laps later, Martin struck and regained the lead.

Pecco slipped behind Morbidelli as well and it looked like he was off the pace. Baganaia, however, was the smarter rider as he was simply conserving his tyre to attack in the latter part of the race.

With a few laps to go, Pecco rose up to P2 and kept piling the pressure on Martin. The duo kept responding to each other's pace and the gap fluctuated around 0.7 to 0.8 seconds.

With the two laps to go, Martin looked comfortable but then disaster struck for the Spaniard. He lost the front, going into Turn One and ended up giving the win to Pecco. That said, once cannot discount the constant pressure that Bagnaia applied on Martin to force him to make a costly mistake. Following the crash, Martin has also lost the lead of the 2024 MotoGP World Championship to Bagania who now sits ten points clear.

Marvellous Marquez

Marc Marquez continues to display his incredible talent and determination as he rose from P13 to P2. This despite being wounded heavily after crashing during the start of the weekend. Marquez, who’s always dominated at the Sachsenring, made some brilliant moves at Turn 13 to move up the field. At point, he collided with Franco Morbidelli who was coming back onto the racing line after going wide in Turn One. That shook Marquez off his seat and he began hunting Morbidelli down to pass him. He then overtook his Gresini Racing Ducati team mate and sibling Alex Marquez who crossed the finish line in third.

A close Championship

As the MotoGP teams head into the three week summer break, Pecco Bagnaia will be able to relax a little after clawing his way back to the top of the Championship leaderboard. Jorge Martin, meanwhile, will be recovering from this blow to his Championship campaign and will be looking to cover the 10 points deficit. Marc Marquez is third with 56 points in the bag.
