-Rises from P13 to clinch the victory
-Jorge Martin finishes second
-Pecco Bagnaia ends the race in P3
Gresini Racing’s Marc Marquez on the GP23 Ducati bike clinched victory at the MotoGP Australian Grand Prix. The Spaniard had quite the tumble down the order from P2 as the rear tyre of his Ducati spun on the line after catching the tear off of his own Shoei helmet’s visor as he threw it away before the start. What followed was an epic rise up the order.
Mega, mega Marc!
As Marquez recovered from the wheelspin and regained control, he fell down the order to P13. Knowing Marc, everyone knew he was not going to give up as he made his way up the grid. In fact, he was so quick that he was in P6 after the first lap. From then on, he made some bold yet calculated moves to come up on Pecco Bagnaia who was in turn in hot pursuit of Jorge Martin.
After quickly passing Pecco, Marquez then closed the gap to Martin but that’s when the real battle began. The duo traded the faster laps between each other and at one point, Marquez did manage to get through and snatch P1. Martin, however, regained the position on the next lap.
Marc then made a brave lunge down the inside of Martin, pulling off a brilliant block pass to snatch the lead again. From then on, Marquez managed to put a decent gap between himself and Martin until the chequered flag waved.
Pecco’s troubles
Bagnaia had a difficult weekend and all he could do was get into damage limitation mode. During the race, he was close to Martin throughout half of the distance and let the race momentarily after overtaking Jorge when he made a mistake in one of the corners. Martin, however, overtook Pecco and it was clear that he was going to fight for every point.
After the race, Pecco finds himself trailing Martin by 20 points. The next race will be held from 25 October to 27 October in Thailand.
