-Pedro Acosta finishes second
-Pecco Bagnaia salvages third place
The championship battle between Matin and Pecco is intense
Prima Pramac Racing’s Jorge Martin dominated the 2024 Indonesian Grand Prix and finally banished the demons of Mandalika Circuit as he bagged his first win.
Mega Martin
Jorge Maritn was a racer in his element as the lights went out. He made the perfect launch and put a large gap between himself and the rest of the field. As the race progressed, Martin set a quick yet controlled pace. While he did come under pressure from Pedro Acosta on the GasGas Tech 3 machine, Martin put in some brilliant late-race pace in the closing stages to seal the win. The win could not have been sweeter considering his disastrous Sprint Race where he crashed.
Pecco on salvage mission
While Martin made a great start, Pecco suffered wheelies off the line as the race began, dropping him down the order. This race was crucial for Pecco as he had to try to close the gap in the Championship to Martin. He kept his cool, however, and made light work of passing Franco Morbidelli and Marco Bezecchi. He held on to third by the end of the race but the difference in points between himself and Martin stands at 21 points.
Marquez and Bastianini are out of the Championship contention
Marc Marquez suffered a disastrous DNF in the race as his Ducati GP23 went up in flames during the race. The Spaniard was visibly upset because he could not finish the race and his title chances are mathematically over. Enea Bastianini also saw his Championship chances fade as he crashed out of the race. Up until that point, he was running a hot pace and was catching the lead pair of Martin and Pedro Acosta.
The next round of the 2024 MotoGP World Championship will be held in Japan from 4-6 October.
