Prima Pramac Racing’s Jorge Martin clinched victory in the Sprint race of the German GP. The Spaniard, aboard his Ducati, put up a brilliant ride to get back to the dominant Sprint pace and wins that he is famous for.
Martin’s Magic!
As the lights went out, Jorge Martin started from Pole but was taken by surprise by Pecco Bagnaia, on the Factory Ducati, who swooped into the lead of the Race. Bagnaia has been perfecting his race starts every weekend and he had the better launch off the line which allowed him to get ahead of the field. It looked like he would sail into the distance like he did last week in Assen. However, Jorge had other plans.
Martin was pushing quite hard in his pursuit of Bagnaia and kept piling the pressure. It looked as if he was more than determined to not let go of the win. And then, he made a bold move on Bagnaia, who got taken by surprise, and lost the lead to Martin. From then on, there was no looking back for Jorge who stretched his advantage by setting a hot pace. This Sprint win was crucial for Martin to strengthen his stronghold over the lead of the Championship.
Magnificent Miguel
Miguel Oliveira, the Trackhouse Racing rider, astride his Aprilia was one of the surprise elements. He displayed a stunning pace in practice and qualifying, and backed that up with a P2 finish in the Sprint. He did come under a lot of pressure from Bagania but after overtaking him, he pulled away and was the only one who was able to challenge Martin’s hot pace. Oliveira has clinched the first podium of the season for Trackhouse Racing.
Marquez’s comeback
The battered and bruised Marc Marquez, who suffered a vicious highside at the start of the weekend, gained some valuable points to stay in the hunt for the Championship. Marquez finished sixth after battling out with a lot of riders. His never give up attitude came to the fore in the last corner of the last lap where he stuck his Gresini Ducati on the inside of Maverick Vinales’ Factory Aprilia and passed him. Maverick did try to get Marquez in the run up to the line but ended up a mere 0.003s behind.
The Main Race will be held today at 5:30pm, IST.
