Wet weather at the Dutch TT meant that rookie Johann Zarco has taken the first pole position of his short MotoGP career. Last year another satellite rider, Jack Miller, won the Assen race, so we should see some surprise results this year as well if the weather stays the same.
The surprise could also come in the form of Marc Marquez winning - the Hondas lose less than the others in the wet, since they don't have drive in the dry to begin with. As such, Marquez starts second on the grid, a mere 0.065 seconds behind polesitter Zarco. Danilo Petrucci on a Ducati GP17 set the third fastest time, and the Doctor rounds out the front row in fourth place.
Scott Redding has had the best qualifying result of the season, at the head of the second row. Despite his crash during Q2, he managed to bang out a great time. The other Tech 3 Yamaha rookie, Folger, is sixth, with Bautista getting another great qualiying result in seventh. Crutchlow is eighth, with Dovizioso first of the factory Ducatis in ninth. Sam Lowes has qualified the Aprilia in tenth place.
Other notables that have been caught out by the weather are championship leader Vinales, in eleventh, Pedrosa in twelfth, and Lorenzo in a dismal 21st place.
However, the weather forecast says that the race will be a dry one, so come Sunday it will be anyone's race to win.
