HRC team boss Livio Suppo has resigned from his role at the Honda MotoGP team. The resignation comes a year before his contract was due to expire.
Livio Suppo joined Ducati's MotoGP program in 1999 as the racing marketing director, and played a major role in its successes from 2003 to 2009, when he left. Undoubtedly the crowning glory of his Ducati's days was the championship that Casey Stoner won in 2007, it being the only MotoGP riders' championship the team has won so far. He then switched to Honda as communications and marketing director in 2010, and is credited with convincing Stoner to move to HRC as well. That led to another title for Stoner in 2011.
Stoner's replacement at Repsol Honda turned out to be a certain Marc Marquez, and we know how that story went. Suppo has no plans currently for work, other than to join a different field. Honda has no replacement named as yet, since the announcement has just been made. It will be interesting to see how the new team principal manages to sustain the success we've come to expect from HRC's MotoGP effort under Suppo.
