The Misano round of the MotoGP championship will be held this weekend, and Valentino Rossi will miss it because of a broken leg he suffered last week. Misano is the home GP for the nine-time world champion - his hometown of Tavullia is barely 50km from the circuit at Misano.
No replacement rider has been announced for Valentino Rossi this week, as a replacement rider has to be announced at least ten days prior to a race. Yamaha test rider Katsuyuki Nakasuga is expected to replace Rossi for the remainder of the races that he will need to sit out. Rossi has already begun with light physiotherapy, and should be back in the saddle on schedule.
The injury comes at the worst time possible - Yamaha had finally got a breakthrough this season, and Rossi led most of the race in Silverstone before dropping back to third place in the final stages. It also means that he is out of contention for the riders' championship this season - so we'll have to look to next year for the possibility of him winning his tenth title.
