The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) has released a report that shows motorcycle sales within the country have gone up by 8.06 per cent. Two-wheeler sales increased to 9,11,908 units in April 2014 from 8,43,909 units in the same month in 2013.
Most two-wheeler manufacturers have recorded a positive growth in sales in the last month. Hero MotoCorp leads the pack with 5,71,054 units sold in April as against 4,99,113 units in the same month last year. This shows a 14.4 per cent increase in year-on-year sales. Comparing it with the previous results, this is also the highest-ever non-festive season monthly sales for the company.
Another major player in the two-wheeler market in India, Bajaj Auto, managed to keep the sales for April 2014 constant with only a very minor drop in sales . Though the company didn’t show an increase in sales figures, they sold 2,99,636 motorcycles in April this year. The manufacturer had sold 3,00,827 units in the corresponding period last year.
Yamaha Motor India showed an overall growth of 42 per cent. The company sold 51,158 units in April 2014 as against 35,927 units sold in April last year. Mahindra Two Wheelers Ltd. (MTWL) sold 15,845 units during April 2014 as against 5,367 units in the same month in 2013. The manufacturer sold 14,896 units domestically while the rest were exports. TVS Motor Company also didn’t remain behind with a 14 per cent boost in sales. Overall 1,83,179 two-wheelers were delivered to customers last month as opposed to 160,502 units in the same month last year.
The election results are round the corner and with a pro-development party expected to come into power, investors have already made the BSE Sensex soar. The markets have opened at a record high. With such positive sentiments in the market, let’s hope the auto industry also sees a boom in the coming months.
