A proposed revision in the RTO registration charges will see motorcycles and scooters become more expensive in Maharashtra. The state’s transport department is planning to hike the RTO registration charges for all two-wheelers from the existing 7 per cent to 9 per cent.
This hike in RTO registration charges was supposed to come into force from April 1, though the official notification regarding the same hasn’t been sent out yet. As the increase in registration charge will be directly reflected on the on-road price of the motorcycle, this cost will have to be borne by the customer. Most of the two-wheeler dealerships in the state are aware of this proposal, though they are awaiting the transport department’s official notification before updating their price lists.
Rumours suggest that motorcycles above 300cc in capacity would attract 10 per cent RTO registration charge, though this will be confirmed only after the government passes the directive. Imported motorcycles on the other hand, are even worse hit as they would be charged 20 per cent according to the new rule.
